The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen the Osun State government account to prevent alleged looting of public funds amid an N11 billion probe into fraudulent handling of state accounts. The EFCC cited suspicious fund transfers as justification for the action, which occurred just before the governorship election.
Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the freeze, calling it undemocratic and an infringement on constitutional rights, and has instructed the state’s attorney general to challenge the EFCC’s move in court.
