Kwankwasiyya leaders say Kwankwaso and Peter Obi may leave ADC for the NDC next week amid party leadership disputes.
Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi are expected to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress next week, according to the Kwankwasiyya movement. Spokesperson Habibu Mohammed said stakeholders unanimously backed the move after consultations in Kano, adding talks with the NDC are “about 90 percent” complete.
Mohammed said Kwankwaso, Obi and others could formally defect on Monday or Tuesday. He explained that uncertainty surrounding the African Democratic Congress influenced the decision, following the Supreme Court ruling that returned the party’s leadership dispute to the Federal High Court.
“The stakeholders have unanimously given him the go-ahead to move to the NDC,” Mohammed said. He added that remaining in ADC “would amount to waiting for Godot.” Obi has reportedly skipped recent ADC meetings after disagreements over zoning and power rotation.
