At least 150 people have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack on Woro community in Kwara State, with survivors saying many residents, including entire families, remain missing.
One of the survivors of the attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Danjuma Bagu, has said he has not heard from his wife and six children several days after gunmen invaded the area. The incident occurred last Tuesday, and community leaders and residents disclosed on Sunday that the death toll had risen to 150 as search and rescue operations continued.
Bagu, who is currently receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to the thigh at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), told Daily Trust that he fled during the attack and has been unable to establish contact with his family since then. “As I speak with you now, I don’t know if my wife and six children are alive. I have not heard from them since Tuesday, after the incident. I also lost my phone,” he said.
The survivor, who said he is originally from Jos and had relocated to Woro for farming, explained that the attackers arrived in large numbers and launched a coordinated assault on the community. According to him, about 200 gunmen riding motorcycles stormed Woro and began shooting sporadically, forcing residents to flee for safety.
