Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Accra on Thursday, demanding action against what they described as continued hostility and xenophobic attacks against Ghanaians living in South Africa.
According to Peoples Gazette, the demonstration was organised by the Ghana First Alliance, with protesters carrying placards bearing messages such as “South Africa Must Go,” “Stop Afrophobia,” and “Enough is Enough.”
The group also called for investigations into the operations of some South African-owned businesses in Ghana, including MTN Ghana, DStv and mining interests linked to Gold Fields. Some protesters demanded the closure of certain businesses and the non-renewal of leases held by South African firms.
The protest follows the recent evacuation and repatriation of hundreds of Ghanaians from South Africa amid growing anti-immigrant tensions and safety concerns.
