Fulani group to US panel: We are not the sole source of insecurity in Nigeria

The Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria have called on international actors, including the United States, to avoid portraying the Fulani ethnic group as the sole source of insecurity in the country. In a statement reported by Vanguard News, the group warned that such narratives risk deepening ethnic tensions and misrepresenting Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

They argued that issues like banditry, terrorism and communal clashes stem from multiple factors, including land disputes, environmental pressures and economic struggles, not any single ethnic group. The group also rejected claims linking Fulani communities broadly to violence, insisting that many innocent families have suffered profiling and attacks as a result. They urged balanced reporting, evidence-based analysis and stronger national unity in addressing insecurity across Nigeria.
