PDP governorship candidate Dr Wole Oluyede has alleged voter intimidation by security operatives and accused INEC of an unacceptably slow accreditation process at his polling unit during Saturday’s Ekiti governorship election.
Dr Wole Oluyede didn’t hold back after casting his vote on Saturday. The PDP’s governorship candidate emerged from his polling unit at Osaguru Hall, unit 6, ward 3, Ikere-Ekiti, with a long list of grievances, and he wasted no time airing them to journalists.
His biggest complaint? The pace of voting, which he called downright unacceptable more than an hour after polls opened. “The process is actually useless. People have been here for about one and a half hours and only five people have voted in my polling unit. That’s what they do all the time, so I am suspecting that there is something wrong with the INEC process,” he said.
He also pointed fingers at security operatives, alleging intimidation tactics and unofficial vehicles being deployed near the deputy governor’s polling unit. “I feel very unfortunate that all I can get here is a handful of cameras, whereas down the road where the deputy governor votes, there is an army of policemen harassing people. You should go there anhh d see the army of policemen that are harassing people. They are using false vehicles. I taped them; I have evidence of that, and I will show you when it is appropriate. This is nonsense,” he said.
Vanguard reported that Oluyede further accused officials of dragging their feet on technical support. “They have called the RATech for the last 45 minutes, and he hasn’t been here. You cannot disenfranchise these people. It is sad for democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
