Abia youths storm forest, rescue kidnap victims after four-hour chase

Youths in Ohuhu, Abia State, have been celebrated for storming a forest hideout and freeing two kidnap victims their abductors abandoned mid-flight.

Six armed men picked the wrong community to mess with. Widow Onyinyechi Ekechukwu and tricycle operator Dennis Okechi were snatched and slammed with a ₦10 million ransom demand, enduring beatings and threats in captivity, according to a Vanguard report.

But Ohuhu youths weren’t having it. After a gruelling four-hour search, gunshots rang out and the rescuers closed in — sending the kidnappers scattering into the bush, captives left behind.

Abia Police confirmed the rescue, vowing to hunt the suspects, while community leaders pushed for more backing for grassroots security efforts.
