Army Commander Behind Oyo School Abduction Victims’ Rescue Redeployed, Gets Successor

Major General Auwalu Mahmuda has taken command as the 56th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division in Ibadan, Oyo State, succeeding Major General Chinedu Nnebeife. Nnebeife’s tenure was marked by the successful rescue of over 40 abducted schoolchildren and teachers after 56 days in captivity, an operation lauded for its intelligence-driven approach and inter-agency collaboration.

Major General Mahmuda pledged to build on his predecessor’s successes, emphasizing enhanced operational effectiveness and security across the South-west. The 2 Division remains a key formation in counter-insurgency and anti-kidnapping efforts.
