FEC Okays N286bn Maritime Projects
The Federal Executive Council has approved maritime infrastructure and safety projects worth roughly N286 billion, targeting safer waters and busier ports across Nigeria.
According to a report by The PUNCH, the approvals came during Monday’s FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja. The package covers two marine pollution control vessels (N59.05bn), six pilot cutter boats (N80.03bn), and two firefighting vessels (N34.06bn). Council also greenlit dredging of the Escravos Channel at N112.85bn, run as a Public-Private Partnership between the Nigerian Ports Authority and private operators.
Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, represented by Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal, said the projects would sharpen maritime safety, environmental protection and emergency response, while easing vessel movement nationwide.
Lawal added the investments should lift port operations and trade activity, fueling growth in Nigeria’s blue economy.
