FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has threatened to revoke the land titles of Abuja hotels and event centres that host political party factions not officially recognized by INEC.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has ordered Abuja hotel and event centre owners to deny facility access to any political party faction not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The directive was issued Friday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections. The administration framed the policy as a security measure to prevent gatherings “capable of disrupting the peace of the nation’s capital.”
Property owners face severe consequences for hosting unauthorized political assemblies. Warning hospitality operators to vet political clients and maintain strict transaction logs, Olayinka stated: “Owners of Event Centres and Hotels in particular must ensure that they only deal with Independent National Electoral Commission INEC recognized leadership of political parties in respect of the use of their facilities, and proper records of transactions must be kept.”
