Peter Obi joined youths and civil society groups at the National Assembly to protest the Senate’s rejection of electronic transmission of election results, citing concerns over transparency and credibility.
Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, on Monday joined youths and pro-democracy groups protesting at the National Assembly, Abuja, over the Senate’s decision to reject mandatory electronic transmission of election results. The protest, tagged ‘Occupy National Assembly’, was organised by youths, civil society organisations and activists demanding a reversal of the decision.
Addressing protesters at the complex entrance, Obi faulted the Senate’s action, urging lawmakers to protect electoral credibility. “Allow the election to go through the normal process. Whatever the outcome is, we will accept it. Why introduce confusion after the process?” he said. Protesters insisted electronic transmission would boost transparency, as heavy security was deployed around the National Assembly.
