DSS reopens Dadiyata sase, seizes El-Rufai’s passport amid investigation

The DSS has reopened the investigation into Dadiyata’s 2019 disappearance, seizing former Governor El-Rufai’s passport as authorities examine alleged links to him and his family.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reopened its investigation into the 2019 disappearance of Abubakar Idris, also known as Dadiyata, a government critic who vanished from Kaduna, examining alleged links to former Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and his sons. A senior security source disclosed that El-Rufai’s passport was seized at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to prevent him from leaving the country amid ongoing inquiries.

The probe reportedly follows months of discreet investigations uncovering fresh leads, and authorities stressed that the passport seizure was a lawful precaution, not an arrest. While El-Rufai claimed knowledge of a police officer involved in the abduction, security officials questioned why such information was not reported earlier. Investigators are collaborating with the EFCC and ICPC, and public calls for a thorough and transparent investigation have intensified.
