Former governors Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to form a unified front for the 2027 elections while urging members to avoid debilitating internal legal battles.
ABUJA — Former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday, pleading for a litigation-free political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
Receiving their membership cards in Abuja, Obi accused the government of orchestrating crises within opposition parties that force multiple party switches. “Please, let there be no litigation,” Obi urged party members. “We want to build a party. We don’t want to spend our time in litigation and fighting ourselves.”
Kwankwaso said their engagement with the NDC showed alignment on education, youth empowerment, and national unity. NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson welcomed the duo as “the biggest brands in our political history.”
The defection follows Obi’s resignation from the African Democratic Congress, which he described as a “toxic” environment plagued by internal squabbles.
EXIT QUESTION: With the “OK Movement” now established, do you believe this alliance can maintain internal harmony without the legal infighting that has previously fractured Nigerian opposition parties?
