A woman abducted from the Kasuwan Magani community in Kaduna State has returned home pregnant after five months in captivity, with medical officials delaying her request for an abortion due to her severely weakened physical state.
A woman abducted from the Kasuwan Magani community in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State has been released after spending five months in the custody of kidnappers. The victim was reportedly seized alongside three others while she was tending to her ailing mother, an ordeal that only ended two days ago following the payment of a ransom. Media personality Reuben Buhari, who detailed the case on social media, noted that the victim endured extreme deprivation and physical violence throughout her time in the bush. “She was tending to her seriously ill mother in Kasuwan Magani when kidnappers broke into the house and took four of them,” Buhari stated, adding that “for five months, she was held in the bush, battling hunger, sickness, and enduring constant beatings.”
Upon her return, a medical examination revealed that the woman is pregnant, a condition attributed to repeated physical assaults by her captors. Beyond the pregnancy, the victim is suffering from significant health complications, including severe swelling of her feet resulting from months of being forced to walk barefoot in harsh terrain. Buhari disclosed that the physical toll of her captivity has left her in a precarious state, necessitating immediate clinical stabilization before further procedures can be considered. “We took her to the hospital and found out she was pregnant,” he wrote, highlighting the secondary trauma she now faces as she seeks medical intervention.
While the victim has expressed a clear desire to terminate the pregnancy resulting from her abuse, medical professionals have advised that her body is currently too frail to undergo the procedure. Doctors are reportedly working to stabilize her vital signs and address her malnutrition before proceeding with her request. “Her decision to evacuate the pregnancy couldn’t proceed because she was weak and needed stabilization first, including pints of blood,” Buhari explained. For now, the survivor remains under medical supervision as she recovers from the profound psychological and physical damage sustained during her five-month disappearance.
