Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to remain united, resilient and actively involved in nation-building as the country celebrates 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule.
In his Democracy Day message, Akpabio praised Nigerians for standing by democracy despite challenges over the years, describing the nation’s democratic journey as a story of endurance and progress. He stressed that democracy should go beyond elections and be rooted in accountability, justice, compassion and service to the people.
The Senate President also urged young Nigerians to take a more active role in politics, saying they represent the future of the country’s leadership.
On security, Akpabio appealed for public support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to combat terrorism and insecurity, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges.
According to People Gazette, the Senate President made the remarks in a Democracy Day statement issued on Friday.
