Afrobeats star Davido used his FIFA World Cup countdown performance to spotlight abducted Oyo schoolchildren, calling for urgent action to secure their release.
Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has drawn global attention to Nigeria’s security crisis after honouring abducted pupils and teachers from Oyo State during his performance at a FIFA World Cup countdown concert.
According to THE PUNCH, Davido appeared on stage in a customised outfit dedicated to victims of the recent abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The singer turned his pre-tournament performance into an advocacy moment, spotlighting the plight of the victims still in captivity and urging urgent intervention from authorities.
In a viral backstage video, Davido wore a black leather jacket decorated with green circular buttons bearing the names of abducted students and teachers. Names of those still missing were written in white, while victims confirmed dead were marked in red.
He also wore a white T-shirt with “NIGERIA” boldly printed on it, while the back of his jacket carried the message “BRING THEM HOME.”
Before going on stage, Davido expressed solidarity with affected families, saying, “Peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed,”
His appearance has since sparked widespread reactions online, with fans praising the singer for using his global platform to highlight Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
