Bandits demand N1billion ransom for abducted Kwara ECWA worshippers

Bandits who abducted ECWA worshippers in Kwara State are demanding N1 billion ransom, rejecting negotiations as security efforts to rescue victims continue.

Bandits who attacked an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo community, Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State, have demanded a ransom of N1 billion for the release of abducted worshippers. The victims were kidnapped during a church service last Sunday, according to the presiding pastor, Omole Timothy.

Mr Timothy said the kidnappers contacted relatives, insisting the ransom be raised collectively by communities in Oro-Ago and warning against negotiation. Attempts to reduce the amount were rejected, with the abductors reportedly refusing discussions below N1 billion. He added that he spoke with some victims, including his wife, who complained of thirst while in captivity.

Meanwhile, the state government confirmed that three victims have been rescued, with security agencies directed to intensify efforts to secure the release of others and apprehend the perpetrators. The incident has heightened concerns over rising insecurity across rural parts of Kwara State, particularly in Ifelodun and neighbouring areas affected by repeated bandit attacks.
