Adeyanju takes the stand in El-Rufai’s security breach trial

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju testified as the second prosecution witness in Nasir El-Rufai’s national security breach trial, with his Arise TV interview played alongside El-Rufai’s own.

The El-Rufai wiretap trial just got another twist. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju took the stand Monday as the second prosecution witness before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court, Abuja — subpoenaed by the DSS itself, according to Peoples Gazette.

The case centers on El-Rufai’s TV claim that he’d intercepted a call involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu allegedly ordering his arrest. In court, both Adeyanju’s and El-Rufai’s Arise TV interviews were played for the judge.

Adeyanju told the court he’d urged El-Rufai to submit to investigation and firmly denied any political persecution angle. The matter has now been adjourned to June 23 for continuation.
