IGP Disu picks Iniedu as new police spokesperson, sends Placid to Lagos

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has appointed CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the Nigeria Police Force’s new spokesperson, replacing DCP Anthony Placid barely three months after his appointment, in what is the Force’s third PR leadership change in under a year.

The Nigeria Police Force has a new face and voice — again. Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved the appointment of CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer, barely three months after his predecessor DCP Anthony Okon Placid took over the role.

The revolving door at police PR has been spinning fast.According to Vanguard, Placid was appointed on March 8 after the exit of Benjamin Hundeyin, who had himself only assumed the role in September 2025. That makes three Force PROs in under a year.

Sources at police headquarters told Premium Times that Placid has been redeployed to head the Lagos Command’s Finance and Administration unit.

So who is Iniedu? A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, CSP Iniedu is a seasoned police officer with extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability and administration. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo and has participated in several professional trainings covering investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication and intelligence analysis.

Before his appointment, Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and spearheaded initiatives designed to strengthen transparency, accountability and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP expressed confidence in Iniedu’s ability to lead the Force Public Relations Department, saying his experience would strengthen the Force’s strategic communication and public engagement efforts.
