US President Donald Trump declared “I’m the boss” while arriving late to the final G7 session in Évian, France, drawing laughter from fellow leaders and capping a summit where he stayed the full three days, signed the communique, and is set to dine with Macron at Versailles.
Forget the seating chart — Donald Trump made it clear who he thinks runs the room.
According to Vanguard,at the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, on Wednesday, Trump arrived late for the final morning session to find the other leaders already seated. His entrance line? “I’m the boss.” The assembled leaders laughed, and Trump grinned as he took his seat beside host President Emmanuel Macron, who reportedly handled the moment with good humour, asking “How are you?” Trump replied, “Good, thank you.”
It’s a fittingly theatrical line from a man who, before politics, built a brand on reality TV’s “You’re fired!” catchphrase. Trump also joked to photographers briefly allowed into the room, asking if they’d like to stay for the meeting, before they were escorted out.
Trump arrived at the summit fresh off securing a tentative peace deal to end the Iran war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, plus celebrating his 80th birthday — and his presence reportedly dominated proceedings in the lakeside Alpine resort. French officials have reason to be pleased: unlike a previous G7 in Canada, where Trump left early, this time he stuck around for the entire three-day event and signed onto the G7 communique.
The day wasn’t all business, either — Trump later planned a stop for a dinner at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris before flying back to Washington, an invitation from Macron, who has stressed it won’t be a formal “gala” affair, mindful of perceptions that he’s too eager to please his American counterpart.
