Nigerian Air Force officers beat Lagos bus driver to death over N100,000 road dispute

Nigerian Air Force officers allegedly beat commercial bus driver Joseph Okpe to death on May 9 after a minor road collision on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, with the case now under investigation by Lagos state detectives.

A Lagos commercial bus driver is dead after Nigerian Air Force officers allegedly beat him to death over a minor road dispute.

Joseph Okpe, 43, was attacked on May 9 along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway after officers accused him of hitting their vehicle and demanded N100,000 in compensation. When Okpe couldn’t pay, the officers reportedly punched and battered his face and head until bystanders intervened. He was rushed to multiple hospitals but was turned away before dying at Charing Cross Clinic, Mushin, same day.

A medical certificate listed severe head injury as cause of death. The case has been transferred to the SCID in Panti, Yaba, Punch Metro reports. The Air Force spokesperson did not respond to enquiries.
