Three secondary schools in Edo State have been shut down after intelligence reports warned of a possible mass abduction plot targeting students.
According to Sahara Reporters, the closures followed a security alert from the Department of State Services (DSS), which reportedly intercepted communications suggesting plans to kidnap schoolchildren in parts of Edo North. Authorities immediately suspended activities at the affected schools in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area as a precautionary measure.
State officials said the move is aimed at protecting students, teachers and surrounding communities while security agencies assess and respond to the threat. Candidates sitting for the ongoing WASSCE examinations will, however, continue to access their centres under enhanced security arrangements. The government urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are underway to prevent any attack and restore normal academic activities as soon as possible.
