Eight soldiers, lieutenant killed in Kaduna ambush

Eight soldiers, including a lieutenant, were reportedly killed in Kaduna State while responding to a rescue mission following an earlier attack and abduction.

At least eight soldiers, including a lieutenant, were reportedly killed by gunmen in Kaduna State during a rescue operation linked to an earlier attack and abduction in the area.

According to TheCable, citing counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred on Monday as troops moved towards communities located along the Kaduna River between Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas.

The soldiers were said to have been responding to reports of an earlier attack and abduction when they came under deadly assault from armed attackers.

As of press time, the Nigerian Army had not officially commented on the incident. TheCable reported that it had contacted military authorities for clarification and confirmation of the casualty figures.

The latest attack adds to growing concerns over worsening insecurity across parts of the North-West and North-Central regions, despite ongoing military operations targeting bandits and other armed groups.

Security analysts have repeatedly warned that criminal gangs continue to exploit difficult terrain and vulnerable rural communities to launch attacks on civilians and security personnel.

The incident also revives memories of March last year, when several soldiers were killed during coordinated attacks on military bases in Kaduna and neighbouring Niger State.

At the time, the Nigerian Army described the assault as a “three-pronged attack” on its formations, underscoring the evolving tactics and growing boldness of armed groups operating in the region.
