The Lagos State Government has arrested more than 15 suspected environmental offenders accused of collecting used disposable plastics and plates from refuse bins and reselling them to food vendors.
According to a report by Punch Newspapers, the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) during an enforcement operation around the Jibowu railway corridor on Tuesday.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on his verified X account, saying the suspects allegedly retrieved discarded disposable items from waste bins before selling them back into circulation.
The operation forms part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to tackle environmental violations and protect public health.
The latest arrests come just days after Lagos authorities detained 144 people across the state for alleged street begging, underscoring a broader crackdown on activities considered harmful to public safety and sanitation.
Punch Newspapers reported that investigations into the suspects’ activities are ongoing.
