Court remand of Oweleke TV operator over alleged coup call

A Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded Paul Jibrin Oweleke, operator of Oweleke TV, over allegations that he used his platform to call for a military coup against President Bola Tinubu.

According to THISDAY, the Department of State Services arraigned Oweleke on a two-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime offences, including making subversive broadcasts and transmitting messages deemed threatening to the President.

The DSS alleged that Oweleke encouraged an unconstitutional change of government and sought to incite public unrest through content published on his social media platform.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges. Justice Akintoye Aluko adjourned the case until June 16 for the hearing of his bail application and ordered that he remain in custody pending further proceedings.
