Court suspends coroner’s inquest into Adichie son’s death until September

A Lagos State High Court has put the brakes on the coroner’s inquest into the death of Master Nkanu Nnamdi Adichie-Esege, the 21-month-old son of renowned author Chimamanda Adichie and Dr. Ivara Esege.

According to reporting by The PUNCH, Justice Aishat Opesanwo adjourned hearing of a judicial review application challenging the inquest proceedings until September 28, 2026. The application was filed by Eurapharma Care Services Nigeria Limited, the hospital where the child died in January.

Counsel to the hospital told the court that several respondents had only recently served legal processes, making it impossible to proceed as scheduled. The parties subsequently agreed on the September date.

The court had earlier granted leave for judicial review and ordered a stay of the coroner’s proceedings pending determination of the substantive suit.
