An ADA official has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to deregister the NDC, claiming the party bypassed mandatory INEC registration steps despite its founder’s insistence that its legal status is secure.
A fresh legal storm has hit Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 polls. Ahidjo Karlahi, a protem director of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking the deregistration of the newly formed Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1115/2026, alleges the NDC bypassed critical constitutional steps during the 2025 registration portal exercise, including failing to pay the mandatory N2,000,000 administrative fee. Karlahi insisted: “This suit is instituted solely by me as a citizen to advance constitutionalism, the rule of law and electoral integrity in our democracy.”
However, NDC founder Seriake Dickson vehemently dismissed the claims at the party’s maiden national convention, declaring that no valid litigation challenges their status. According to a report by Daily Trust,Karlahi wants the court to forbid INEC from recognizing the NDC, warning that if registration processes are compromised, “the entire democratic edifice is at risk.”
