NERC orders compensation for Band A electricity consumers

There may finally be some relief for electricity consumers paying premium tariffs.

The Punch reports that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reiterated that Band A customers are entitled to compensation whenever distribution companies fail to deliver the minimum power supply promised under the tariff structure.

Band A users, who pay higher rates in exchange for at least 20 hours of daily electricity, can seek redress if that service level is not met. NERC says persistent failure by DisCos to provide the required supply could trigger compensation measures, including service credits and feeder downgrades.

The regulator also urged consumers to report unresolved complaints through the appropriate channels. The move is aimed at strengthening accountability in the power sector and ensuring customers get value for the tariffs they pay.
