2027: Tinubu will win landslide, I won’t back Peter Obi – Babachir Lawal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal has announced his exit from active politics and resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), predicting a landslide victory for President Bola Tinubu in 2027 based on the ruling party’s superior electoral maneuvering.

In a sudden political development, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, announced his immediate resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and his total retirement from active partisan politics on Monday. Speaking during a live broadcast on Channels Television’s Politics Today, shortly after breaking the news via a statement on his official Facebook page, Lawal expressed profound exhaustion and dissatisfaction with the contemporary operational landscape of Nigerian politics. The elder statesman revealed that he has chosen to permanently distance himself from political alignments in order to dedicate his remaining years to private agricultural enterprises and localized church-related community activities.

Lawal, who had previously integrated his political structures into a newly formed opposition coalition that adopted the ADC as its central vehicle to challenge the status quo, admitted that he no longer understands or aligns with how politics is orchestrated in the country. Deciding that a complete exit was the most honorable path forward, the former SGF stated, “I’ve just come to the conclusion that in Nigerian politics, everybody is… I don’t understand how it’s practised. I don’t know how it should be practised. Maybe there are some Nigerians who know to run their things. I don’t want to be part of anything again.”

Turning his attention to the upcoming 2027 general elections, the prominent Northern politician issued a blunt, sobering forecast for his former allies in the opposition, confidently predicting an unassailable landslide victory for the incumbent, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Lawal argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) possesses an unmatched institutional supremacy in navigating the realities of Nigerian elections, warning that fractured opposition efforts would be completely overwhelmed. Delivering a sharp critique regarding the manipulative capabilities of veteran politicians like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Lawal concluded, “Tinubu will win with landslide. If the parameter for winning the election in Nigeria is rigging, nobody can face Bola Tinubu. If Atiku’s strength is in manipulating results, he will meet the master leader in the front next year. And so they will be all the worse for it.”
