Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has appealed to families of abducted teachers and pupils, as well as concerned Nigerians, to forgo planned protests and instead pray for the victims’ safe release. Speaking during a church service in Ibadan, Makinde said bandits thrive on attention and warned that protests could boost their ego.
According to a report by People Gazette, the governor urged citizens to seek divine intervention, insisting that God can change the hearts of the kidnappers. The appeal comes weeks after bandits attacked schools in Orire Local Government Area, killing some victims and abducting others. The hostage crisis has sparked public outrage, with activists including Omoyele Sowore threatening nationwide protests if the captives are not rescued.
