Liverpool have sacked head coach Arne Slot just over a year after he led the club to the Premier League title, following a disappointing second season that ended with a fifth-place finish.
Liverpool have parted ways with head coach Arne Slot, just over a year after he guided the club to Premier League glory. Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2024, enjoyed a strong debut campaign at Anfield, winning the Premier League title and reaching the Carabao Cup final.
However, the Dutchman’s second season proved difficult as Liverpool finished fifth in the league and ended the campaign 25 points behind champions Arsenal, prompting the club to make a managerial change. In a statement, Liverpool acknowledged Slot’s contribution, saying: “That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and – most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves – successful.”
The club added: “At the same time, we have collectively come to the conclusion that change is necessary in order for the club to keep moving forward. Again, it must be stressed that this is not a decision which has been reached lightly, anything but.” Liverpool also praised Slot’s legacy, stating: “We would like to take this opportunity to place on record our appreciation for Arne, who will always hold a special place in the history of this football club as the coach who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title.”
