Defence Minister Christopher Musa has dismissed the alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s government, describing the suspects as “foolhardy” and poorly organised, according to The Punch Newspaper. Speaking on Arise News, Musa said the group behind the October 2025 plot lacked real support and were so weakly coordinated that ordinary Nigerians could have stopped them without military involvement.
He criticised the officers involved, calling them confused individuals who misled junior personnel into a failed operation. Musa also expressed sympathy for lower-ranked soldiers, saying they were misled by senior officers.
The minister said investigations and court martial proceedings are ongoing, adding that the process remains transparent and fair. He stressed that the armed forces are stable, well-supported, and properly motivated, insisting there was no justification for the attempted coup. Musa also used the moment to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to democracy, saying military rule is far inferior to civilian governance.
