Tension boiled over in Ibadan on Friday as teachers under the Nigeria Union of Teachers staged a peaceful protest over the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to Daily Post, the victims were kidnapped on May 15 after armed terrorists invaded Esiele community, carting away more than 40 pupils and teachers. Nearly three weeks later, the captives are still being held, with disturbing videos from the kidnappers circulating online.
The protesters marched through Iwo Road chanting solidarity songs and demanding urgent government action. “Bring back our children” and “No more bandits” echoed across the streets as frustrated teachers called on security agencies to rescue their colleagues and students immediately.
