Bandit Threat: Presidency urge worshippers to avoid mountain prayer sites

The Presidency has asked worshippers in Kwara and Kogi states to temporarily suspend Ori Oke prayer gatherings over rising security fears in forest and mountain areas.

According to reports by The Sun and other local media, the warning came from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, North Central. The office said remote prayer locations were increasingly becoming hideouts for bandits and criminal gangs, putting worshippers at risk.

Officials stressed the move was purely for safety, insisting that “God can be worshipped anywhere.” Residents and religious leaders were also urged to cooperate with security agencies while authorities work to stabilise affected communities across the North Central region.
