Tensions surfaced during the APC governorship screening in Rivers State as Governor Siminalayi Fubara reportedly received a cold reception while allies of Nyesom Wike underwent smooth screening.
The All Progressives Congress governorship screening in Rivers State on Sunday exposed deepening tensions between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and allies of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 elections.
Fubara reportedly left the screening venue in Abuja shortly after appearing before the committee, amid claims he received a cold reception from party officials.
Sources said former House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda and Rivers Works Commissioner Alabo George Kelly, both considered loyal to Wike, were screened without controversy.
APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru said the committee would release its report after concluding the exercise. Fubara’s aide, however, dismissed reports of tension, insisting the governor was quickly cleared because he is an incumbent seeking re-election.
The APC governorship primary is scheduled for May 21, while INEC fixed the election for February 6, 2027 across the oil-rich Niger Delta state.
