Jonathan plans to appear in court friday over eligibility suit, then declare 2027 presidential bid –sources

Jonathan may announce his 2027 presidential bid after appearing in court over a suit challenging his eligibility.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to appear before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday over a suit challenging his eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election. The case, filed by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi, argues that Jonathan has exhausted the constitutional two-term limit after completing Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s tenure and serving another full term. Justice Peter Lifu earlier ordered hearing notices to be served after defendants failed to respond on time.

Sources told SaharaReporters Jonathan may use the court appearance to officially declare his 2027 presidential ambition and unveil his political platform. Speaking recently, Jonathan said, “Presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely.” The development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections nationwide.
