Senate minority whip defects to NDC, cites ADC crises

Tony Nwoye defects from ADC to NDC, citing internal divisions and legal battles weakening the party.

Tony Nwoye, the Senate Minority Whip, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal crises and legal disputes. His resignation letter was read during plenary by Godswill Akpabio, who directed an update of official records.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and my intention to defect to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC),” Nwoye stated.

He blamed “internal divisions and the ongoing multiple litigations at the Federal High Court” for weakening party stability.

The move follows a broader wave of defections, including 18 lawmakers and key figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, signaling deepening cracks within the opposition coalition.
