“ADC is Dead” — Senate president Akpabio reacts to mass defections

Senate President Akpabio declared the ADC “dead” during Tuesday’s plenary as lawmakers continued defecting en masse to the NDC and Labour Party.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared the African Democratic Congress effectively finished, reacting with humour to a growing wave of lawmakers abandoning the party for the NDC and Labour Party.

Presiding over Tuesday’s plenary, Akpabio suggested a more coordinated defection process after repeated announcements on the floor.

“Maybe all those defecting from ADC should just compile everything in one paper and bring, so that we don’t keep announcing, announcing, announcing. Because I think ADC is dead,” he said.

He also raised eyebrows over Senator Abaribe’s multiple party switches, quipping: “How many times can you defect in a month?”

Senator Victor Umeh, who joined the NDC, cited “lingering divisions in the leadership and unending litigation” as his reason for leaving.
