2027:Ex-President’s son, Yusuf Buhari, gets automatic ticket

Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency unopposed after being adopted as the consensus candidate for the 2027 elections.

Yusuf Buhari, the son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially entered the 2027 political race after securing the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yusuf emerged as the candidate unopposed following a stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina on Tuesday, April 28, where he was unanimously adopted. The consensus agreement was formally announced by Alhaji Ahmed Dangiwa, the Chairman of the Consensus Committee for the Daura Zone and a former Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

In the wake of the adoption, party leaders have called for internal cohesion to ensure victory in the general elections. Mannir Musa, the APC Chairman for Mai’adua Local Government, urged members to support the decision, stating, “I urge all our people to be obedient and accept the consensus reached by the committee and stakeholders in good faith. We should all work together for the unity and progress of the party and our people.” Musa further appealed to Katsina Governor Dikko Radda to provide support for aspirants who stepped down, while also naming Nasir Yahaya and Mustapha Musa as consensus candidates for the Daura senatorial seat and the State House of Assembly, respectively.

Responding to his nomination, Yusuf Buhari expressed his gratitude to the party hierarchy and the constituents for the opportunity to serve. He promised to prioritize the needs of his district and bring a fresh perspective to legislative duties if successful at the secondary election. “Yusuf Buhari, in a remark, thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide quality representation, if elected,” the report noted, marking a significant step in the younger Buhari’s transition from the private sphere into active frontline politics.
