Mustapha Musa has withdrawn from the 2027 race and endorsed Mai Mala Buni as his preferred successor in the National Assembly.
Mustapha Musa, the senator representing Yobe East, has stepped down from the 2027 race, throwing his weight behind Mai Mala Buni as his preferred successor in the National Assembly. In a statement announcing his withdrawal, the lawmaker declared his full alignment with the decision of party leaders and the political arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I hereby formally withdraw from the contest for the ticket,” he said, emphasising that he would not seek any other elective office, while directing his supporters to stop circulating campaign materials promoting him for any position. He also congratulated former Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, who has emerged as the preferred governorship candidate of the party leadership, wishing him and other candidates success in the forthcoming polls.
The senator, who had been eyeing the governorship ticket, expressed gratitude to Mai Mala Buni and Ibrahim Geidam, Minister of Police Affairs, for what he described as their mentorship and sustained support. He said their guidance shaped his political journey from his early role as Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Scholarship Board to his appointments as commissioner and eventually senator.
