Atiku being bulled despite giving Obi first vice-presidential ticket – Momodu

Dele Momodu has defended Atiku Abubakar against online “bullying” from opposition supporters, while warning that regional political loyalties and internal discord remain significant challenges for the 2027 election.

Media mogul Dele Momodu has condemned the targeted “bullying” of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, particularly by those claiming to be supporters of Peter Obi. In a recent social media statement, Momodu expressed disappointment that Atiku, who gave Obi his first national platform as a vice-presidential candidate in 2019, is now being subjected to online hostility. He attributed the attacks to “agent provocateurs” attempting to sow discord within the opposition ahead of the next election cycle.

During an X Spaces discussion, Momodu also addressed the voting patterns of the 2023 election, challenging the narrative that Peter Obi was “rigged” out of victory. He pointed out that Obi received nearly 100% of the votes in his strongholds, which were officially recorded. Furthermore, Momodu sparked debate by remarking that Northern voters are unlikely to “die for” any Southern candidate, highlighting the significant regional hurdles faced by candidates attempting to build truly nationwide support.

Despite the criticisms, Momodu reaffirmed his loyalty to Atiku, describing him as a seasoned politician who remains a formidable contender. He noted that the upcoming 2027 cycle likely represents Atiku’s final political outing, stating that if he fails to secure the primary, it would mark the end of his journey. Momodu concluded by urging political supporters to maintain civility, warning that disparaging others including President Bola Tinubu only reflects poorly on the character of the speaker.
