DSS arrests officers over El-Rufai airport security breach

The DSS has arrested five security officers over an alleged insider breach at Abuja’s airport involving Nasir El-Rufai, with the suspects handed to the ICPC for prosecution.

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested five security officers over a security breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. The arrests follow a February 12 incident in which operatives reportedly attempted to arrest El-Rufai upon his arrival from Cairo. The suspects are said to have admitted to receiving bribes to grant unauthorised access to restricted airport areas and interfere with security procedures.

The joint investigation was conducted by the DSS, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Ministry of Aviation. Authorities described the case as a serious insider compromise of critical national infrastructure, adding that the suspects have been transferred to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for prosecution, while others found culpable will face internal disciplinary measures.
