A Sharia court judge in Jigawa State was forced into retirement after being found guilty of corruption and illegal detention of a citizen.
A Sharia court judge in Jigawa State, Mr. Sadisu Muhammad-Haruna, has been compulsorily retired over corruption and abuse of office allegations.
The Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission said investigations found he collected unauthorized fees and illegally detained a petitioner. The commission described the conduct as “a gross violation of judicial ethics and an abuse of office,” stressing zero tolerance for corruption within the judiciary.
The decision followed a petition by Abdullahi Hamza and subsequent investigations confirming misconduct. The commission said the action would “serve as a clear warning that the commission will not tolerate any form of corruption or abuse of power by a judicial officer.”
Over 80 staff members were also promoted to boost morale and improve efficiency in the state’s Sharia court system.
