Mugabe’s son to remain in custody as attempted murder case adjourned

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe will remain in custody after a South African court adjourned his attempted murder case to March 3 while prosecutors oppose bail

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, will remain in custody after a South African court adjourned his attempted murder case until March 3. Mugabe and co-accused Tobias Matonhodze appeared before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was postponed to allow arguments on their bail application.

Prosecutors opposed bail as authorities confirmed the pair face charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice. Police said the duo were arrested after a gardener was shot at Mugabe’s residence in Johannesburg, with the court ordering them to remain behind bars pending further proceedings.
