Federal Ministry of Works’ mailbox too full to take emails from citizens

Nigerians are unable to reach the Federal Ministry of Works for inquiries or complaints because its official email address has been out of service due to a full mailbox for over a week.

The Federal Ministry of Works is currently inaccessible to the public via its official digital channels, as investigations by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) revealed that the ministry’s primary email address has exceeded its storage quota. Attempts to contact the ministry at info@fmw.gov.ng resulted in automated bounce-back messages stating, “The mail system info@fmw.gov.ng: host mail.govmail.gbb.com.ng[private/dovecot-lmtp] said: 552 5.2.2 info@fmw.gov.ng Quota exceeded (mailbox for user is full).”

Despite Minister of Works David Umahi’s recent assertion that “the public has a duty to protect public assets,” Nigerians have been unable to report infrastructure concerns such as the status of the Lotto Bus Stop bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway due to the technical failure. FIJ first documented the issue on February 13, and as of Sunday, February 22, 2026, the mailbox remains non-functional, with the system advising users that the “message could not be delivered to one or more recipients.”
