Civil Society sues INEC, SSS, APC over Dapo Abiodun’s fake academic records, lying under oath

A civil society group has sued to disqualify Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun from future elections, alleging he forged academic credentials and committed perjury by concealing a 1986 criminal conviction in the United States.

A civil society group, the Human Global Resource Initiative, has filed a lawsuit in the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court seeking a perpetual injunction to bar Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun from contesting any future elective office over alleged certificate forgery and perjury.

In the suit filed in February 2026, the group’s Executive Director, Buna Olaitan Isiak, detailed significant discrepancies in the governor’s academic declarations, noting that Abiodun claimed to have attended “International Primary School Ayetoro” in 2019 despite local education authorities asserting the school “is not in existence.”

The group further alleged that while the governor declared degrees from the University of Ife and Kennesaw State University in 2015, he “backtracked in 2019” to claim only a West African School Certificate, with university officials reportedly stating he never graduated from Ife.
Beyond academic records, the group accused Abiodun of concealing a 1986 criminal record in Miami-Dade, Florida, for credit card fraud and forgery, asserting he committed perjury on his INEC forms to hide the indictment.

The lawsuit, handled pro bono by lawyer Yemi Oke, urges the court to determine if these “questionable academic records” and conflicting sworn statements violate the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act, effectively seeking an “embargo on Mr Abiodun’s future nomination” just as the governor is rumored to be eyeing a senatorial seat.
