Doctor identifies kidnappers at Edo Teaching Hospital as police make arrest

Two suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of a doctor and the killing of his brother have been arrested at Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, after being identified by one of their alleged victims.

Two men suspected to be involved in the kidnapping of a medical doctor, Abu Ibrahim, and his brother, Abu Tahir, who was reportedly killed, have been arrested at the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. The suspects were apprehended early on Sunday after Ibrahim reportedly recognised them at the hospital, where they had gone to visit one of their associates receiving treatment in the emergency ward.

The abduction of the two brothers reportedly occurred in January at Igbira Camp in Auchi, near a military barracks. According to information gathered, the suspects had recently been sighted in Auchi town in the company of two individuals wearing military uniforms, raising concerns within the community. Local leaders described the arrest as a significant development in tackling the wave of kidnappings in Auchi and surrounding areas.

Community leaders, including Alhaji Rilwanu Bonvist Oshiobugie and the Daudu of Igbe, Chief Yekini Sado, called for a comprehensive investigation to dismantle the wider criminal network behind the attacks. Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Police Command Headquarters for further investigation, while the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, identified them as Idris Abubakar and Sani Abubakar.
