The House of Representatives says delays in electoral reforms are deliberate and necessary for credibility, while rejecting allegations of falsified tax laws and pledging improved oversight accountability.
The House of Representatives has defended the delay in passing the Electoral Act amendment bill, saying it is aimed at harmonising views to produce a credible and effective law. House spokesman Akintunde Rotimi urged Nigerians to be patient, noting that the bill would strengthen transparency and address flaws observed during the 2023 general elections.
Deputy Spokesperson Philip Agbese dismissed Senator Ali Ndume’s claim that recently passed tax laws were falsified, calling it “sheer mischief.” He said the House followed due process and had set up a committee to address concerns, while the Public Accounts Committee pledged timely submission of outstanding Auditor-General’s reports.
