Malam Auwal, the father of Umar Auwal, the prime suspect arrested over the killing of seven members of a family in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis, has urged authorities to swiftly punish his son without delay. Umar is currently in police custody and is accused of killing his aunt, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in broad daylight on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Maimuna, 17; Aisha, 16; Bashir, 13; Abubakar, 10; Faruk, seven; and Abdussalam, aged one-and-a-half. Police authorities have confirmed that the suspect confessed to the killings, as well as to a separate attack in the Tudun Yola area, where two housewives were allegedly murdered and their house set ablaze.
Speaking during an interview with Freedom Radio, Malam Auwal publicly disowned his son, describing him as “useless to society” and insisting that he should be executed rather than imprisoned. He alleged that Umar had previously killed his younger sister several years ago and mutilated her body, adding that he did not want the government to expend resources prosecuting or keeping his son in custody, but instead called for his immediate elimination.
