VIDEO: Russian general killed in car bombing in Moscow, fingers point to Ukraine

A Russian general has been killed in a car bombing in Moscow, with officials pointing the finger at Ukraine for the latest assassination of a senior military officer. Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, who ran the armed forces operational training department, died after an explosive device installed under his car detonated. Russia’s investigative committee stated, “One of the theories is that the crime was organized by Ukrainian special services.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin was immediately informed of Sarvarov’s death. The attack is part of a series of assaults on prominent Russian figures in Moscow since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, many blamed on Ukrainian security services. Video from state media showed a severely damaged vehicle in a residential neighborhood parking lot.

Sarvarov, 56, had led the training department for nine years and previously served in Syria. His death follows other high-profile killings, including Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik in a car bomb last April. Ukraine has claimed responsibility for past operations, including the assassination of nuclear weapons general Igor Kirillov a year ago.
